Wife cut the w heel a little too hard (literally) when leaving the apartment complex and scraped the wheel against the bottom of the gate. The aluminum is gouged pretty good. Any ideas on if it’s repairable at all? It’s beyond regular curb rash.

From inside the car it sounded really scary, like she had actually scraped the side of the car, so I was actually  shocked when I went around and saw this was the only damage.

Looks repairable.

Some gashes in there. Since its aluminum, it can be buffed down, but that can unbalance the wheel. If you do repair it, get it rebalanced.

Yeah I had a feeling it wouldn’t be your typical repair. Thanks for the tip about getting it rebalanced! I wouldn’t have thought of that.

If you can live with good enough see if you can find a close rattle can paint match to the wheel.  Spray it in the gouges, use alcohol or some other mild solvent on a rag to carefully wipe off the excess outside the gouge.  I used a file and the same general process to repair some curb rash on a couple wheels.  You will still see the gouges, but they won't jump out at you so much.

Honestly I think the only practical repair is to do this...

A mobile wheel repair guy can repair that. He’ll use a filler, sand it down, and blend the paint. If he's good you'll never be able to tell.
